PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition, a method of applying a thin coating in a vacuum. Decorative PVD finishes can produce a range of metallic colors. The process name alone does not tell you the base metal, coating composition, thickness or expected service life.

For example, coating supplier Ionbond lists Gold 18K as a decorative coating color, with its own separate technical specifications. Equipment manufacturer VaporTech explains options for gold-colored PVD coatings. These are general technical references, not specifications for Miduoduo products.

Ask us to confirm whether the finish on your selected product is specified by color, contains a precious-metal layer, or has another agreed coating structure. We use gold-tone color descriptions where the precious-metal composition has not been separately established. A gold-colored surface should not be described as solid gold.

Is PVD Gold Jewelry Waterproof?

The words “PVD” and “stainless steel” alone do not establish a waterproof rating for a complete piece of jewelry. Ask what exposure was tested, for how long, and on which finished product. A brief water demonstration is different from evidence covering repeated wear, salt water or pool chemicals.

What About Skin-Contact Claims?

A coating process is not a guarantee of zero irritation. Ask for the material information and any relevant product-specific test reports before making claims for sensitive-skin customers. Available reports apply to the samples and tests identified in those documents; they should not be presented as proof for every item in a catalog.

How to Review a Sample Before Ordering

Start with a small selection of the exact styles and finishes you intend to sell. Under consistent lighting, photograph the front, back, joins and high-contact areas. Check color consistency, visible surface defects, edges, clasps and the overall finish. Record the SKU and observations rather than relying on memory.

If you need a particular performance claim, agree on the test method and pass criteria before testing. Keep visual inspection, practical wear trials and laboratory results clearly identified in your records. Each answers a different question.

Care and Order Planning

Follow the care instructions supplied for the individual product, especially pieces with stones, enamel or other decorative components. As general handling guidance, dry jewelry after water exposure, wipe it with a soft cloth, store pieces separately and avoid prolonged contact with harsh chemicals.
